Victory At Sea: Benson-Class Destroyers Far East Webbing KhakiThe first examples of the Benson class were ordered in 1938 as a derivative of the Sims class with a modified torpedo armament arranged in two banks of five. A new machinery layout was implemented, using four smaller boilers rather than the three of the Sims class. During production, several variants appeared. Some were due to construction streamlining efforts, such as the deletion of many curved surfaces from 1941 onwards. The original five 5 inch
